Some shows are bound to be something of each other's natural enemies.

When it comes to sitcoms, Friends usually antagonizes The Big Bang Theory; but they're also fairly similar to How I Met Your Mother, and there's no way around it.

Even the main concept is the same in both series — in Friends, the main characters gather in their favorite coffee place, and in How I Met Your Mother, they sit in their favorite bar.

No one failed to notice such a blatant similarity, and the HIMYM's writers knew about it, too. One of them involves this very bar-coffee place dispute, so to speak.

In HIMYM season 2 episode 7, Ted, Marshall, and Barney sit in a coffee place that totally resembles Central Perk from Friends. They even have a couch and all that, but the main characters are far from impressed; they are bored, in fact.

While they're there, they keep complaining about how boring a coffee place is compared to a bar.

This is a very clear and funny jab at Friends that basically says: "Hey, we're better than that boring show!" It's interesting how many people missed this reference, but then again, not everyone's watched both How I Met Your Mother and Friends.

These days, of course, both shows are the golden classics of sitcoms adored by fans, most of who have watched them both by now.

Even back in the day, this rivalry was only for fun — now everything's changed. But it's still fun to rewatch them and find some details and references you might have missed during your first (and second, and third…) binge.

After all, both in life and in a show, if you're having fun with your friends, it doesn't matter where you do it — in a coffee place or in a bar. Good company makes good memories, not a place.

It just makes more sense to go for a bar. Just saying.
