Show Must Go On: Why Some Series Won't Film Until The Strike Is Over, And Others Will
The rules are getting more and more confusing with each passing day.
If you feel like you don't understand half of what's going on in the entertainment industry right now, don't worry. It turns out that no one really does. With both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes now active, many people have called for a complete shutdown of Hollywood with insane consequences.
And while that is true to some extent, some productions are still said to go on. SAG-AFTRA actors will be able to participate in at least 39 projects, including two films from the A24 studio. How are these productions different from the others? They are all considered independent.
While it is clear that the majority of the projects are in fact indie and would require different rules to be applied to them, seeing A24 on the list had some people raising their eyebrows. As it turns out, A24 is not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which makes it independent.
The studio will be making two movies: Mother Mary and Death of a Unicorn. Other titles to keep in mind and look out for in the near future are The Rivals of Amziah King, Bride Hard, and Dust Bunny, all starring well-known Hollywood A-listers.
What's even better is that the list isn't complete yet, so there will be more movies and TV shows to keep you busy while you wait for other productions to resume.
The union's decision to allow independent creators to continue filming and promoting their projects is controversial and has already sparked a conversation about how it may be unfair to the actors fighting on the front lines of the strike. But for viewers, it is certainly good news.
Not only will fans not be starved for content during the months the strikes last, but we will also have the opportunity to get to know more creators and studios on a smaller scale.
In addition, SAG-AFTRA's executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland believes that the success of independent projects made on the actors' terms could undermine the studios' attempts to label them as unrealistic.
Keep an eye out for any important news or updates behind the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes!
