It's not who you think it might be.

While many factors contribute to the overwhelming success Bridgerton has had over the years, one of the most important is the show's appeal to female audiences. Whether you believe in the power of the ‘female gaze’ or not, the way Bridgerton handles romantic dialogue and steamy scenes has a lot to do with its ratings.

Another very important thing is the attractiveness of the male leads. The more viewers are attracted to the main couple, the more willing they are to root for their happy ending. This attraction is also an ultimate factor in choosing your favorite couple. Even Shonda Rhimes, the mastermind behind the show, has her own thoughts on Bridgeton's perfect man.

While Rhimes has dedicated Penelope Featherington's season to all the wallflowers of the world, and clearly has some personal attachment to the character, it is not Penelope's in-universe love interest that she has chosen for herself.

During Rhimes’ time on Jennifer Hudson Show, the host has presented her with an option to choose from her leading men. The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, had to compete with Grey’s Anatomy’s McDreamy and Scandal’s President Fitz, but won a special place in the producer’s heart.

“I'm gonna have to say the Duke. Not because they're not all amazing, but because he was such fantasy fulfilled, kind of man. Like he was perfect, never got to have any real flaws after we got them all together,” she said.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a lineup of all the Bridgerton leads in particular, Shonda Rhimes' choice works for the show as well. While Anthony still has to be the viscount and take care of his entire family, which must be stressful, and Colin has a whole conflict with Lady Whistledown on his hands, the Duke will have the calmest life going forward.

The only real downside to this choice is the fact that Simon Basset, previously portrayed by Regé-Jean Page, will no longer appear in the Bridgerton universe, as the actor left the show after season 1. On the other hand, this could be for the better, as he and Daphne are now safe from all the drama that each season brings.

If you are interested in seeing how season 3 of Bridgerton turns out, be sure to tune in to Netflix on June 13 to catch the second and final part of the season.
