The role of Patrick Bateman was Christian Bale's first big break, but not everyone believed in the future world-class star at the time.

Christian Bale is rightly considered one of the most prominent actors of our time, with many cult films on his resume. One of them is American Psycho.

The movie initially received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, but over time it became one of the most memorable films of all time.

It was only recently, however, that Christian Bale found out that his colleagues on the set did not appreciate his acting, to put it mildly.

During the filming of Ford v Ferrari, Christian Bale learned from his American Psycho co-star Josh Lucas that his colleagues in the cult film by Mary Harron had called him a terrible actor behind his back.

"Josh Lucas and I did a film together recently and he opened my eyes to something that I had been unaware of. He informed me that all of the other actors thought that I was the worst actor they'd ever seen.

He was telling me they kept looking at me and talking about me, saying, 'Why did Mary fight for this guy? He's terrible.' And it wasn't until he saw the film that he changed his mind," the actor said in his interview with MovieMaker.

Christian Bale's dedication to acting knows no bounds. He began using extreme acting method in American Psycho.

He became so accustomed to playing a maniac that followed his system of self-care – with face masks and hours of daily exercise – and did not communicate with his colleagues on set. This behavior also led to hostility from his co-stars.

Chloё Sevigny, who played Patrick Bateman's secretary, also recalled her experience working with Bale with mixed emotions.

According to her, she was a young actress at the time who did not know about the Bale method, and all attempts to establish any kind of communication with him failed.

Since American Psycho, Bale has received three Oscar nominations and won one for The Fighter. Now, when the actor agrees to join a project, he automatically raises its profile.
