Sheldon's Biggest Flaw in TBBT Came From His Misogynist Friends, And Young Sheldon Proves It
Well, here you got a bad influence from supposedly good guys…
Summary:
- Sheldon Cooper is many things, but fans suggest that his biggest flaw is sexism
- One can argue Sheldon only became misogynistic in The Big Bang Theory because of his friends’s bad influence
- In Young Sheldon, on the contrary, Sheldon behaves in a respectful way with both men and women
When we first met Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, we immediately got the idea that there was something wrong with him. And many of the situations he has been in have proven us right.
Sheldon is obnoxious and careless, he never understands when he does something wrong, and he always puts himself first. But there is another flaw that Sheldon has on the show: he is sexist.
Although he has several female friends and acquaintances, Sheldon doesn't really understand them and uses the most aggressive stereotypes as a form of communication to reach them. But it seems that he wasn't always like this.
Was Sheldon Sexist in Young Sheldon?
Fans noticed that Sheldon Cooper was not like this when he was young. The prequel spinoff of the original series proved that he had a completely different approach to women back then.
He respected all of his male and female (worthy) teachers equally, he treated his female family members the same as his male ones, and he had close female friends (well, one friend), but that's not the point. He never put men and women on opposite sides, but treated them the same way.
But that changed when he grew up, and maybe there's someone to blame.
Raj, Leonard, and Howard Changed Sheldon
While Young Sheldon showed us that, thanks to his upbringing, the boy genius has always seen men and women as equals, things changed on The Big Bang Theory. For starters, he was surrounded by three geeks who knew nothing about women and were probably even more socially awkward than Sheldon ever was.
Leonard, Raj and Howard's interactions with women were so embarrassing that it was painful to watch. This was both because they did not know how to behave and because they believed that such an attitude would make girls fall in love with them.
Well, what are the chances not to be affected by friends like these ones? Sheldon was doomed without even realizing that.
Did Sheldon Redeem His Sexism?
Despite his horrible start with the girls, we actually got to see him change a lot over the course of 12 seasons. The transformation he went through is a big thing on The Big Bang Theory, as he became a more considerate friend to all of his pals, but most importantly, he re-learned that it's not right to live by sexist stereotypes and finally let go of the idea that girls are only sad and nervous during "that time of the month."
However, there are still fans that never believed Sheldon really was a sexist in the first place.
“His comments to Alex about women being slaves to their biological urges is no different than him saying the same things to the guys. He sees all people acting based on those urges. He doesn't say that only women do,” Redditor majorzombie7204 said.
Well, in a way those words are true, but comprehending Sheldon is a difficult task, so we will not go into detail and let you decide what to believe.
