If he’s not the smartest, and he’s definitely not the kindest, why do people like him?

If there is one thing The Big Bang Theory desperately wanted its fans to believe, it was that Sheldon Cooper, one of the main characters, was always the smartest person in the room. Even in a room full of scientists of his own level, he was portrayed in a way that made people believe he was the know-it-all.

This knowledge was one of the supposed excuses for his behavior. It was clear from the beginning that Sheldon interacted with the world around him in a different way than most people, but he made up for it by being a literal genius. One offensive line was covered by the next, reminding viewers of his degree.

But not everyone bought it. In fact, some fans believe that Sheldon was the smartest person in the group until another character showed up. And that character happens to be his girlfriend, Amy Fowler.

The more you think about it, the more your perspective changes. Although Sheldon is still the one who gives the heartfelt Nobel acceptance speech at the end of the series, Amy may be the one who deserves more credit for her work.

Not only was she the one who collaborated with Sheldon on his project without even having a Ph.D. in physics, but she was also the one who collaborated with Howard and Kripke.

Her character layers an emotional intelligence on top of the academic one, which makes her much more complex and more likely to find some solutions that are not so obvious to Sheldon.

Besides, even if we just stick to science, she has her own Ph.D. in neuroscience, which is an equally impressive achievement.

Fortunately, Sheldon and Amy balance each other perfectly and can work in symbiosis, so there is no real need to compare their intellectual viewpoints.

If you're feeling nostalgic and want to relive Sheldon and Amy's story from meeting on a dating app to winning the Nobel Prize, you can stream The Big Bang Theory on Netflix or MAX.
