Sex Education Fan Favorite Couple Will Probably Leave You Devastated, According to Creator
The showrunner teases the finale, which is probably going to break our hearts.
The fourth season of Sex Education will be the last, as the promotional campaign of the show already plays with the phrase "finish together."
Season 3 ended with many surprises, from Moordale Secondary School closing its doors to its students to Maeve leaving for the US just as things were starting to get better between her and Otis. In that sense, season 4 will be the end, but also a new beginning for these characters.
Over the course of three seasons, Otis and Maeve have grown closer and then drifted apart. We all hoped that at least in the finale, these two would finally have their happy ending.
However, showrunner Laurie Nunn's comments suggest that we should be prepared for rather a heartbreaking finale:
“I'm hopeful that there's a bittersweetness to [the ending], and that there's everything people want in there, even though it might not be wrapped up completely perfectly.”
It was also revealed that all the main characters – Otis, Maeve, Eric and Jean – will have relatively little interaction in the final season, which also raises the suspicion that Otis and Maeve's romance won't be an endgame.
Another revelation that does not add to the excitement is the fact that the focus will shift more to the minor characters, while those who we fell in love with during the three seasons will get much less screen time.
In addition, the series will move to Cavendish College, where many Moordale students have transferred. The newbies will face a "culture shock": the characters considered themselves progressive, but they still do not reach the level of Cavendish.
And besides Otis, there will be another sex education expert at the college, but it is not yet known who exactly it will be.
One of the fan favorites, Aimee, will have more screen time. Actress Aimee Lou Wood said that her character will face difficulties. For the first time, she is not in a relationship with anyone, and her best friend has moved to another country.
According to the actress, in the fourth season, Aimee will realize that she has a brilliant mind and something to say.
Sex Education season 4 premieres on Netflix on September 21.
