Selena Gomez Teases Fans About Upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place Revival
Gomez and her former onscreen brother David Henrie will produce and star in the revival of the Disney 2000s hit show.
Summary:
- Selena Gomez shared with Jimmy Kimmel some impressions of the new Wizards of Waverly Place project
- She will star in the pilot episode as an adult Alex Russo
- David Henrie’s character will be strongly connected to a new star of the show.
The 31-year-old singer and actress came by the Jimmy Kimmel Live show and happily spilled some tea on the upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place new project, which Gomez and her colleague actor David Henrie announced in January.
It would be the revival of the teen comedy TV show, which was streaming from 2007 to 2012 on Disney Channel and attracted enough viewers at the time, resulting in Gomez’ subsequent popularity.
Firstly, she corrected the host, saying it’s gonna be not a simple reboot, but a different version of the former show with old characters and, of course, magic involved.
Gomez herself is planning to appear only as guest star in the pilot, playing the same old Alex Russo, focusing mostly on the production, while Henrie will star in the revival as her brother Justin on a regular basis, serving also as an executive producer of the show.
The official synopsis sets the new story long after the events of the original show, showing us an adult Justin Russo living a life without magic powers, having his own family and business.
As it always happens, there is no way to escape the past, and then he faces the necessity to recall his old life of a wizard when he encounters a young witch with magic powers (played by Janice LeAnn Brown) claiming him to help her.
The Internet started speculating on the actuality and potential quality of the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot.
“Star of show talks about upcoming TV project: "it's sorta boring, to be honest. Takes a long time to get going," sarcastically pointed out Redditor @drewhead118.
Some users considered it unfaithful that Justin, who was passionate about being a wizard and loved to experiment with magic, will turn into an adult willingly choosing a typically normal life over adventures, as it breaks the essential principles of the character.
There is also a clear statement that the original TV show is so outdated it doesn’t even need a revival. Nevertheless, let’s wait until it is released and then draw the conclusions.
The premiere date for the Wizards of Waverly Place revival has not been announced yet.
