Schitt's Creek’s Most Iconic Line Only Actually Sounds Twice in The Entire Series

For as many years as the Internet has been popular, many people have tried to break the virality formula. With so many huge corporate teams, researchers, and tons of money going into meme studies, not many of them have made any progress at all.
From random phrases to images and videos, the blessing and curse of virality remains a mystery.
One such example of something extremely unexpected going viral would be a catchphrase from the iconic Canadian sitcom Schitt's Creek that flooded the Internet and spilled out onto T-shirts, car license plates, coffee mugs, and even into the everyday vocabulary of many fans.
"Ew, David," which Alexis Rose said to her brother David on the show, became a true phenomenon.
What many viewers and even hardcore fans of the show don't realize is that the phrase has only been said by the character twice, and both times in the same episode. The funny thing is that not even Annie Murphy, who played Alexis, realized that this was the case.
The actress admitted as much in an interview with Jimmy Fallon:
“I just found out recently, some woman told us, that I only actually say ‘Ew, David’ twice in the entire series. But I also said, like, ‘Ugh, David’ or ‘Why, David”. I tacked David onto whatever I possibly could, and it just kind of spiraled out of control,” she said.
No matter how many lines, including poor David's, were actually said, only the "ew" one seems to stick with fans. While it may seem like a strange choice, the good news is that the actress doesn't seem to mind.
If anything, it must be very satisfying to see the Schitt's Creek legacy live on even after the show's cancellation in 2020. Even if it lives on in the form of a meme.
