Sometimes actors are very much like their characters, and sometimes they're absolutely not.

Annie Murphy is best known for her role of Alexis Rose in Canadian sitcom Schitt's Creek, being the one who blessed us with the iconic "Ew, David!" and that A Little Bit Alexis banger.

Schitt's Creek fans know and love Murphy for her comedic talents, but many are genuinely surprised to discover that the actress is very different from her character.

While Alexis is a casual and seemingly carefree influencer who doesn't seem too intellectual, Murphy is very calm, down-to-earth, and even has a deeper voice than her character.

Moreover, her path to the role of Alexis Rose was nothing short of borderline tragic, as it turns out.

As Murphy revealed in an interview with Good Morning America, she was in her "bleak hellscape" before being cast in Schitt's Creek.

"I hadn't worked in almost two years," Murphy recalled. "I had very, very little money, like a scarily small amount of money in my bank account. My apartment had just burned to ash."

As the actress puts it, the universe was "pretty overwhelmingly" trying to tell her that she desperately needed to move on, so she did.

Playing Alexis was the complete opposite of everything Murphy had been through: Miss Rose's biggest problem in life was having to live without her family's wealth, huge parties, celebrity friends and hookups.

Unlike her Schitt's Creek character, Murphy is still uncomfortable with being famous.

However, the role has completely changed her life, although after Schitt's Creek ended, the actress wanted to challenge herself and see if she could do something other than Alexis' Kardashian-like mannerisms.

And boy, did she succeed! In addition to Alexis, Murphy portrayed Allison McRoberts on the AMC dark comedy series Kevin Can F**k Himself. She will soon appear in the Black Mirror episode titled Joan is Awful, which will premiere in June.
