The power of Shonda Rhimes saves the day once again.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Hulu 's The Great was no exception. Granted, fans weren't expecting the show to be canceled after only three seasons of dark humor, raw emotion, and political ambition, but executives made their decision loud and clear.

The market for ongoing period dramas is not as large as one might think, and the show with a similar vibe to The Great that comes to mind is, of course, Netflix 's Bridgerton. Right now, viewers are waiting for the release of the already filmed season 3, but the news of Hulu's cancellation of the hit show has changed the mood in the fandom.

Lavish costumes, beautiful locations, a huge budget spent on soundtracks, and actor salaries are what united the two shows besides the genre. Whether Hulu's decision was made to save the studio some money and avert the financial crisis, or simply in spite of the ongoing writer and actor strikes, Bridgerton fans became equally concerned about their show.

Fortunately, so far there are no signs that Netflix is about to pull the trigger on Bridgerton.

First of all, the studio has already confirmed that season 4 is in the works. Of course, if this was a simple renewal, that decision could have been reversed. However, if part of the budget has already been spent and the story for season 4 has already been underlined, Netflix is unlikely to scrap it all.

Compared to The Great, Bridgerton has always had a larger audience with a very active fan base. Season 2 of the series was considered by many to be the best to date, and the spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which premiered in May of this year, has been equally well received.

Sadly, the same could not be said for the third season of The Great, which may have contributed to Hulu's reluctance to renew the series.

Lastly, many dedicated Bridgerton fans believe that the show would be under the personal protection of Shonda Rhimes. Knowing how much Rhimes cares about the story and how influential her word is to any studio executive, people feel that Netflix would rather drop other projects than get into such a conflict.

As of today, there is no official release date for Bridgerton season 3. However, fans believe the show will premiere this December, so keep an eye out for any important news or behind-the-scenes updates!
