Buffy the Vampire Slayer star doesn't want to take part in a revival but would gladly pass the baton to someone else.

For many of those born in the 80s, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has become an important part of the childhood and teenage years. Being one of the strongest female characters on late 1990s and early 2000s television, Buffy Summers inspired millions of girls and became an ultimate fan-favorite character.

The success of The WB series resulted in hundreds of tie-in products, including novels, comics, video games, fan films, and the spin-off Angel. With the iconic show ending almost two decades ago and the current obsession with nostalgia, a potential return to the beloved series has long been a topic that sparked considerable debate.

Longtime viewers would surely like to immerse themselves into the Buffyverse and maybe introduce it to their children. But would a new project manage to live up to the original show?

Sarah Michelle Gellar seems to think that this is impossible. At least, not with a revival that would make her reprise her iconic role.

"I am very proud of the show that we created and [a revival] doesn't need to be done," Gellar told SFX Magazine (via Movieweb).

The actress added that, in her opinion, the vibe of a potential revival would be way off since the main theme of the original series was "the horrors of adolescence."

"I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent," the actress joked.

At the same time, Gellar said she would support a Buffy reboot if it were to be done.

"I am all for them continuing the story, because there's the story of female empowerment," she said.

The original show ended up in a way that would easily let someone other than Buffy become the Vampire Slayer and fight off evil in the modern world. And sure enough, there were at least two attempts to remake the iconic show, with both of them failing.

Besides a movie allegedly starring Vanessa Hudgens, there was an idea of a television show created by Monica Owusu-Breen. It was supposed to be more diverse, featuring a Black actress as a Slayer. Original series creator Joss Whedon said he was aboard this reboot, but last year it was put on indefinite pause.
