Sam Raimi Is Preparing To Revive This Iconic 90's Superhero, But Will Hollywood Let Him?
Today Sam Raimi is known as the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy, but it was his first studio film 'Darkman' that really kick-started his career in Hollywood.
A commercially and critically unsuccessful film about a vigilante-slash-superhero premiered way back in 1990 and starred young Liam Neeson in a titular role. Darkman had the superpower to transform into any person he wanted and used his supernatural powers to get revenge on the mobsters who disfigured him. Despite underperforming at the box office, the film became a cult classic and even spawned a couple of sequels (though without Raimi and Neeson). Perhaps with the approaching release of Raimi's latest film, 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', the '90s picture will finally get a well-deserved sequel?
Well, Sam Raimi thinks so, too. Speaking to The Wrap, director said that talks about the revival of the franchise are already underway, and there is even a producer attached.
"Universal is talking about a Darkman sequel. There's a producer attached. I haven't heard the story yet or gone into it, I've been so busy with (Doctor Strange). But I think it's cool," Raimi said.
Fans are beyond happy, eagerly awaiting the possible return of Liam Neeson's beloved character.
