Perhaps this is the time for the Doctor to catch up with current pop culture.

Doctor Who fans can consider themselves very lucky this year because so far it has been filled with nothing but amazing news for the show.

First, the fanbase was thrilled with the news of David Tennant's comeback as the 14th Doctor in the three 60th anniversary specials.

Then Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the 15th Doctor, with overwhelmingly positive reviews from his previous projects. But it turns out there are more surprises to look forward to.

"I'm honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join 'Doctor Who!' I hope there's room in the TARDIS for my luggage," this is how Jinkx Monsoon, the actress and two-times RuPaul's Drag Race winner, commented on the news of her joining the cast of Doctor Who.

The same excitement was shown by the current showrunner, Russell T. Davies himself, who teased Monsoon as "the biggest star of them all".

Although this casting decision is surprising, as no drag queen has ever joined the Doctor's universe, it has been met with nothing but praise from the fandom.

Jinkx Monsoon has already proven herself to be very talented, having had a lot of experience in theater plays, including Hedwig and Chicago, so it was only a matter of time before she landed a major television role.

"Russell is clearly taking a stance on the culture war that's being pushed villainizing drag queens and I am 100% HERE for it!" Redditor ItsMeRonanT said, expressing their support of this casting decision.

Other Doctor Who fans seem to agree, and are already theorizing about what role would best suit Jinkx Monsoon.

While some are genuinely excited to see her as a villain, others joke that it would be hilarious to see her in the most mundane role imaginable.

Either way, the Doctor would probably not notice the difference – why not go all in?

Other than the role being "major", there are no certain details about when Jinkx's character will be introduced, and how long their arc will be.

So stay tuned and stream Doctor Who on Disney Plus, if you don't want to miss a thing.
