Robert Pattinson Gets Candid About His Worst On-Screen Kiss
It’s not always as romantic as you think.
While audiences can appreciate the struggles that actors go through to transform into their characters and give the best performance they can, there are some instances where people are convinced that actors have it easy. Usually, this is the general thought about romantic scenes, including on-screen kissing.
No matter how many actors have said in their interviews that kissing their co-stars was the most awkward and uncomfortable experience they have ever had, for one reason or another, the audience is still prone to believe in the magic of cinematography. Various instances of actors falling in love and becoming a real couple after playing one on TV or in a movie don't help.
If anything, they only reinforce the stereotype. However, not everyone is on board and willing to let it live. Twilight and Batman star Robert Pattinson, for example, is very open about some of the worst experiences he had on set.
Turns out, kissing Reese Witherspoon during the filming of Water for Elephants was one of them.
“I was doing it when I had a really bad cold. My nose is running all over the place, and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig,” the actor revealed in an interview with MTV.
What's even more telling about this story is that Witherspoon herself confirmed her co-star's version of events when she later spoke to MTV reporters.
Though the actress was quite reserved in her reactions, calling the experience "not appealing" and “not pleasant”, it's hard to imagine something like this happening in a post-COVID production and not getting a huge backlash.
Luckily for the actors, the biggest threat they both faced after those sloppy kisses was the common cold, so filming wasn't postponed or delayed. And thanks to Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon's talents, audiences wouldn't even know about the disaster of a kiss if they saw it in theaters.
