Hollywood almost lost one of the most versatile actors.

Although Robert Pattinson actively avoided big-budget projects for almost a decade, he became famous primarily for his roles in movies like Twilight and Matt Reeves' The Batman.

After the shooting of Twilight ended, the actor went to the indie low-budget movies, as he wanted to get rid of the frivolous image of Edward Cullen, which could stick to him for the rest of his career.

And he succeeded – High Life, Good Time, Life – all these movies were far from being hits, but they allowed the actor to reveal new facets and pump up his acting skills in a way that Twilight did not allow.

After a long period of filming in low-budget movies, as if atoning for the sins of Twilight, which, as the actor himself admitted, he does not like very much, the actor was able to start no less interesting and multifaceted roles, but already in the movies of such influential directors as Nolan and Reeves.

However, it turns out that things could have been very different had Robert not failed the audition for one of the highest grossing franchises – Michael Bay's Transformers .

It is not known for which role he was invited, but the actor failed the audition for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, switching to American accent in front of the casting team.

The actor hoped that he would not be recognized, but this was obviously not the case.

When the agent found out about Pattinson's behavior at the audition, he called his client and said that he had foolishly missed a great opportunity to reach a new level.

In hindsight, it's safe to say that the actor gained more than he lost by not being in Transformers, which in total grossed $4.8 billion.

If the actor jumped from one big-budget franchise to another, it could be more than possible to get stuck in successful but silly roles that don't come close to revealing the acting talent we can see today.

So apparently it is thanks to the fake American accent that Robert Pattinson is now one of the most charismatic and versatile actors in Hollywood.
