Robert Downey Jr Follows Daniel Radcliffe's Footsteps In the Best Way Possible
Robert Downey Jr. has been under the spotlight for many years now, and fans track whatever he's doing very closely; now, with his new project, they are joking about him following the Harry Potter star's footsteps.
Yesterday, we finally got the first look at Robert Downey Jr. 's new TV series, The Sympathizer.
The show will revolve around a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy in America during the final days of the Vietnamese war.
The series is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen's award-winning novel The Sympathizer and will explore complex issues through dark humor, among other things.
The Sympathizer has Robert Downey Jr. as one of its main stars… Well, actually, more than one: the actor will play four (!) characters at the same time!
After learning about that and seeing what Downey Jr.'s characters will look like, the actor's fans went on a meme spree.
Some of them even claim it's now obvious that Robert Downey Jr. "has been studying at the Robert Pattinson-Daniel Radcliffe school of 'doing whatever the f**k you want after leaving a Hollywood franchise'".
The comparison is pretty hilarious in itself, too: both Radcliffe and Pattinson are famous not only for their big roles as Harry Potter and Edward Cullen but also going a bit crazy after finishing their franchises.
Remember Dan's Horns and Robert's The Lighthouse? This is the type of weird we're talking about.
Robert Downey Jr.'s decision to join a TV series and play four different people at the same time definitely falls into the same category, and it's amazing.
After being Iron Man for so many years, it must feel fantastic for Robert to dive into something as bizarre-looking.
We are convinced that The Sympathizer will not turn out bizarre in the end, though; it's more about the four-character part. Downey Jr.'s characters look hilarious, too — take a look for yourself!
Other fans, however, disagreed with the claim that Downey Jr.'s following the younger actors' steps — they say it was actually vice versa, and Robert had been doing whatever he wanted for years prior to joining the Marvel Universe.
"Sir, he was doing whatever the hell he wanted BEFORE becoming a Hollywood franchise superstar. Now he's just coasting until they call him back," said Twitter user @Super_Shanko in reply to the "Pattinson-Radcliffe school" joke.
This is very true, but many people don't recall Downey Jr.'s early days, and this is something new for them.
Forget Romione, This is Harry Potter's True Power Couple
Anyways, we're looking forward to The Sympathizer even more now and hoping that it's going to be as good as four Robert Downey Jr.s combined.
