Robert Downey Jr Fearlessly Defends His Worst Movie Ever

Robert Downey Jr has done a lot of movies in his long-running career, from Chaplin and Oppenheimer to Iron Man (and all the MCU movies Tony Stark was involved in). However, it seems like there’s one film that occupies a special place in his heart… and we can’t say the same about all of us.

During a talk with the NY Times, he mentioned the projects that he feels have changed his life. Downey pointed out that the most meaningful works he has done during the last 25 years are actually The Shaggy Dog and... Dolittle.

This kind of news hit the fans pretty hard as they remember not being so happy about the Dolittle movie when it aired. While Downey clearly tried to save the movie, it just didn’t feel right with… well, pretty much everyone.

“Downey did his best but his voice was just wrong, Banderas was good with the little screen time. Everyone else in live action was just hammy or bad at acting. I would give it a 5 out of 10. The editing and directing really bugged me,” Redditor mikeweasy said.

In fact, many people consider Dolittle to be Downey’s worst film ever. But not RDJ himself.

As the actor himself said, despite the controversial reactions to the picture, he is still very grateful for his decision to be a part of it.

"I finished the Marvel deal and then rushed into what promised to be another big, fun, well-executed potential franchise in Dolittle. I had some reservations. Me and my team seemed a little too excited about the deal and not quite excited enough about the merits of the execution. But I was bulletproof at that point," he said.

Downey Jr. admits he switched priorities after Dolittle, and has since begun work on a Netflix documentary called Sr. that centers on his relationship with his late father, who had Parkinson's disease.
