Rings of Power Scene That Emotionally Destroyed LotR Fans The Most
Whatever criticisms may be levelled at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, there is no denying that the series has managed to deliver a number of scenes that evoke strong emotions. Most of these are related to the dwarven storyline, but not all.
Fans recently discussed what scenes struck them the hardest on Reddit, and honorary mentions are quite numerous.
Elrond talking about how he'd be happy to hear any judgment from his father if it meant they got to have one more conversation, as well as Celebrimbor talking to Elrond about his father. Elendil and Míriel on the ship returning to Númenor, talking about being the Faithful.
The final Harfoot scene, with Nori saying goodbye to her family ("Some father. Here you're heading into the big beyond and I haven't taught you a bloomin' thing.") and hugging Poppy. Poppy sitting through her family's eulogy. Sadoc's death, with him waiting to watch one last dawn.
Prince Durin's arguments with his royal father, particularly the final one, which ends with the Prince proclaiming that Elrond is like a brother to him and getting effectively disowned.
Durin reminding Elrond that he is mortal and 20 years is a lifetime. Prince Durin's final scene with Disa. The entire scene between Galadriel and Sauron after "I have been awake since before the breaking of the first silence." Seeing Valinor and the Two Trees. Even Adar mercy-killing one of his Orcs!
But what scene was considered the most devastating? Judging by the number of upvotes it was indeed the scene of Durin and Elrond saying "Namàrië" ("Farevell" in the Elven tongue) to each other in Episode 7, after all attempts to convince King Durin III have failed and Elrond is about to be kicked out of Khazad-dûm.
At that point Prince Durin believes Elrond's words that mythril is of literally vital importance to the Elves – even if his conviction is not yet completely heartfelt – so to a large extent he believes that they are seeing each other for the last time.
And he is visibly teary-eyed, while Elrond does his best to maintain a cheerful attitude so as not to hurt his friend any further. And then, just when it seems that all has been in vain, a small miracle happens... This is certainly a good choice of an emotionally impactful scene.
