Rick Grimes Returns in New The Walking Dead Spin-Off: Here's Everything We Know
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was officially announced, and here’s all the information about the show apart from Andrew Lincoln reprising his iconic role as Rick Grimes.
After remaining the lead character of The Walking Dead for many years, Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes was allegedly killed off in Season 9 when he blew up the bridge, and most of his comrades believed he was gone. Michonne didn’t, however, and so didn’t we — and now, Rick Grimes finally returns to kick some zombie skulls!
Or not.
Admittedly, The Ones Who Live will be mostly focused on Michonne with the ultimate goal of bringing Rick Grimes back into play. Here’s everything we know about the new The Walking Dead spin-off that features its most iconic character.
What’s The Ones Who Live About?
The upcoming TWD spin-off will follow Michonne’s journey to find her missing husband Rick Grimes. Judging from the teaser trailer, she’ll soon find out that Rick is being held captive and will do her best to free the father of her kids and return back to camp with him. The biggest mystery now is, who decided to keep Rick as a pet?
Judging from Rick’s short speech in the teaser, he somehow managed to contact Michonne or otherwise leave her a message. The former leader of the camp admitted he’d tried to escape and failed — but he never specified who or what was holding him. Still, this message brought his wife joy and determination to find him.
Who’s Working on The Ones Who Live?
Despite several writers having worked on The Walking Dead and its spin-offs, The Ones Who Live came back around to the longest-standing writer: Scott Gimple. Gimple took the show over in Season 2 and worked on it until Season 9, leaving together with Andrew Lincoln. Now, they both make a triumphant return.
As for other actors, Danai Gurira will reprise her role as Michonne, and Pollyanna McIntosh will appear as Jadis. At this point, it seems unlikely that any other original characters will star in The Ones Who Live. As for newcomers, we have Terry O'Quinn, Matt Jeffries, and Lesley-Ann Brandt who’ll play brand-new characters.
When Will The Ones Who Live Release?
Officially, no exact release date has been announced for the new The Walking Dead spin-off just yet. However, the teaser for The Ones Who Live claimed the series would come out in February 2024. Seeing how it’s only been uploaded less than two weeks ago, we have all reasons to believe that this date won’t be changed later.
The Hollywood strikes have already come to a conclusion, so there’s no second-guessing about the release dates now. The project was first announced in 2022 and wrapped up its production in May 2023, so everything admittedly checks out. We believe we’ll learn the exact dates for The Ones Who Live’s release later.
