Galadriel is one of the few characters who exist in both Tolkien's popular The Lord of the Rings and Amazon's original prequel series The Rings of Power.

Because she has existed as a fan-favorite for so long, plus the obvious differences in her personality from the show compared to the books, many fans have been critical of her appearance within the series. However, one Redditor believes that the RoP's Galadriel is in fact a more interesting version of the character than her interpretation from the books. This opinion may be an unpopular one, but admittedly, it is worth listening to.

Galadriel is introduced during The Fellowship of the Ring when she first meets the fellowship on their quest to Mordor. She presents her wisdom to the group, offering each a gift before they depart to continue their quest.

Fans Rally to Bring Jackson into Rings of Power, But Can He Actually Fix It?

Before they leave, Galadriel expresses to Frodo the importance of his duty as ring bearer. In a moment of weakness, he offers her the One Ring directly. She remains one of the few characters in the story who, at the chance to take the ring, refuses it through the strength of her own will. Much of her contribution as a character to the narrative is important throughout the remainder of the books.

However, this is her most significant moment within the series. And as argued by the Reddit theory, offers little deeper insight into Galadriel's true personality.

By contrast, Galadriel is not only a younger, less-rounded version of herself within The Rings of Power, but she is also a much more prominent character. Thousands of years before her part in helping the fellowship, she is struggling with her own conflicts. Set on destroying Sauron at all costs.

For this reason, she is far less compassionate and impatient. Although aspects of her personality still mirror the Galadriel she is based upon. For example, she is clearly still wise among her kin and a powerful elf. She lacks the restraint that she assumably gains through later experience. The Reddit theory suggests this all points to Galadriel being much earlier in her character's arc. That Galadriel's own story is one of redemption, which begins with the mistakes she makes as her younger self in this series.

This Rings of Power Scene Was So Bad, It Actually Became Iconic

If this really is how the show plans to plot out her progression over the show's seasons, this may make reference to her choice to finally refuse the Ring in the later story, to 'pass the test' and prove that she is no conduit for evil. This could be not only a clever link to the source material but build upon the reasoning for Galadriel's change of character within the show. Giving her backstory greater meaning, and as this controversial opinion states, make the character more 'interesting'.

Of course, opinions of Galadriel's character are up to the individual interpretations of each viewer. Many fans still believe that the differences between Galadriel in the books compared to her in the series are too great a change to write off. Other fans appear more open to where the show's narrative may take the character going forward. Either way, Galadriel is still as prominent a figure within the Tolkienverse as she has ever been.
