Recently Reddit decided to have a bit of fun by discussing the image which substituted stars of 90s for the cast of The Boys.

As can you guess, the process of discussion and upvoting/downvoting various proposals produced pretty much the perfect cast, fixing a few oversights on the part of the original image's author!

That author's proposal of Nicolas Cage as Homelander was replaced by Tom Cruise. As Homelander's personality is more or less based on Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, and the actor who played him (Christian Bale ) used Tom Cruise for inspiration, this is pretty much perfect. ("That's not fair. He would barely even have to act.") Failing that, Christian Bale himself was the second most popular among the suggested options.

Cuba Gooding Jr. was considered a better choice for A-Train, than Martin Lawrence. Some also have argued for Adam Sandler as The Deep, to make the character zanier, but, going by the number of upvotes, as many considered that James van der Beek already would be perfect.

And most of the stars picked by the image author were approved, including Bruce Willis as Butcher, Leonardo DiCaprio as Hughie, Alicia Silverstone as Starlight, Sandra Bullock as Queen Maeve, Laurence Fishburne as MM and Lucy Liu as Kimiko.

Reddit also suggested some actors for characters who were missing from the original picture, such as Jean Reno as Frenchie, Gilbert Gottfried as Black Noir, Mario Lopez as Supersonic, Jeff Goldblum as Translucent, Famke Janssen as Stormfront, Christian Slater as Lamplighter, Sandra Bullock as Neuman, Burt Reynolds as Blue Hawk, Chris Farley as Love Sausage, Brad Pitt as Soldier Boy.

So, thanks to the effort of an unknown image author and a whole lot of Reddit users, we know how the cast of The Boys would have looked like, if the show was filmed thirty years ago, but with modern sensibilities, and on an absolutely unlimited budget that would overshadow that of the biggest blockbusters. Well, men can have their pipe dreams, and in this case the pipe dream was at least entertaining.

The Boys season 3 premiered this past June, and, considering that the creative team is already working on season 4 (production on The Boys returned to Toronto in August), it's safe to assume that we're going to once again watch our favorite team of ragtag wannabe vigilantes come summer 2023.
