Real Reason Behind Young Sheldon's Tornado Storyline That Destroyed Meemaw's House
That’s the television magic for you.
After a few seasons of Young Sheldon, it became clear that the prequel to the iconic sitcom The Big Bang Theory was not only on par with the original, but surpassed it in many ways. A little more subtle, but also a lot more relatable than the first series, Young Sheldon managed to not only keep TBBT fans happy but also attract a new audience.
Fans were reintroduced to some of the Cooper family members who had appeared briefly in the original show, as well as meeting the new ones. It was quickly established how dysfunctional the Coopers were, but that made the family dynamic even more compelling for viewers.
One of the characters who quickly became a fan favorite is Meemaw, Sheldon's grandmother, who made an impression on The Big Bang Theory by questioning Amy as the right partner for her baby boy. Snarky and witty, she was the perfect explanation for Sheldon becoming the man he was.
In Young Sheldon, the showrunners made sure to explore their relationship further.
As beloved as the character is, she wasn't safe from the devastation the writers prepared for the season 6 two-parter finale. At the end of the season, both Meemaw returning from the laundromat and viewers were treated to the devastating sight of her house in ruins after a sudden tornado.
What's interesting is that there's a behind-the-scenes explanation for this storyline that has nothing to do with Meemaw herself. It turns out that Meemaw's house was filmed at a different location than George and Mary's, at Warners Ranch. Because of the need to rebuild and build new sets, the studio decided to tear down the ranch.
It wasn't just Meemaw's house that fell victim to the reconstruction. Homes from such classics as American Beauty and Lethal Weapon, as well as TV series like WandaVision, will also be gone.
It's more than likely that Meemaw's house will play a big part in her storyline during season 7 of Young Sheldon. To find out exactly how the family would handle this situation, stay tuned for behind-the-scenes updates and important production news.
