Summary:

  • The series focuses on hundreds of contestants competing for money in deadly games.
  • Season 2 of Squid Game will be released in 2024.

Almost three years have passed after the Netflix hit Squid Game was released and literally made the whole world obsessed with it. The South Korean drama became the most watched show on the streaming platform, breaking all the records.

The series revolves around hundreds of contestants trapped in one place, desperately trying to win the deadly game they have been offered. The winner would take home a huge cash prize and end their financial problems once and for all.

The thing is, all the other contestants would have to die for just one to win the money. At the center of the survival drama is Lee Jung-jae's character named Seong Gi-hun, who is supposed to be the main protagonist of the show.

He was the one who never gave up and tried to fight against the system of the game. But when he realized that it wasn't possible, he had to make the decisions that would save him.

Together with Gi-hun at the heart of the show were also a failed businessman Cho Sang-woo and a North Korean defector Kang Sae-byeok, who wanted the money to help her family.

The first season ended on a major cliffhanger, portraying the winner of the game, Seong Gi-hun, going somewhere in the metro. We noticed that his hair was now pinkish, and that it’s probably a hint that will be explained in season 2.

But what do we know about the upcoming season? Well, the latest news is that per Deadline, it was confirmed by Netflix in an investor letter that Squid Game season 2 will premiere on the platform in 2024.

It's obvious that some important characters from season 1 will be back for the new chapter, for example Lee Jung-jae has been confirmed to return along with Lee Byunghun, who plays Hwang In-ho, a.k.a. The Front Man, and Wi Hajoon as Hwang Jun-ho, the police officer who infiltrates the game to try and find his missing brother.

Fans will also be happy to hear that Gong Yoo's Salesman will be back. But there will also be a lot of new characters, which is quite logical considering that most of the people from the first season were killed.

Well, if you feel the need to revisit the thrilling series to remember all the characters you used to root for or wanted to lose, it's time to binge the show again on Netflix.
