Fans noticed a scene almost identical to the one from the iconic show in the Reacher series, which may be a clue to upcoming events.

Summary:

  • Episode 4 of Reacher season 2 provided a number of important revelations that made the story even more convoluted
  • However, one particular scene bears a striking resemblance to The Wire, leading fans to believe it was a reference
  • If true, this could be a hint at a big reveal in one of the upcoming episodes of the season

With the release of episode 4, Season 2 of the Reacher TV series has passed its halfway point, adding more clues to the conspiracy at its center, making the story even more convoluted, and featuring a surprising cameo.

After Reacher and his team arrest a corrupt senator's aide with the help of Oscar Finlay, who played a major role in the events of season one, they realize that Little Wing is actually anti-missile software that can be repurposed into a deadly, never-missing weapon.

They also learn that the New Age facility they raided in the previous episode is not the only one, as it contained just software, with another one in Denver containing actual hardware.

Another big reveal at the beginning of the episode showed that Tony Swan, one of Reacher's former colleagues, actually worked for the same company, so he might be involved in the conspiracy, if he is still alive, of course.

Fans Think They Found a Reference to Legendary HBO Show

However, one particular scene may suggest that despite the fact that the writers present Swan as a rather shady character, he may be innocent, as some fans believe it to be a callback to the iconic TV series The Wire.

The crime drama TV series lasted for five seasons from 2002 to 2008 and was critically acclaimed throughout its entire run, with some fans even calling The Wire one of the greatest shows of all time.

With a wide range of brilliant and well-acted characters and intriguing storylines, along with clever and unexpected plot twists, the show captured the hearts of countless viewers who still remember it fondly many years later.

Domenick Lombardozzi, who portrays Gaitano Russo in the second season of Reacher, previously starred as Thomas "Herc" Hauk in The Wire, and one particular scene from the old show involving his character bears a striking resemblance to one in the Reacher series.

In The Wire, Herc accidentally lost a stack of drug money that was stuck behind the wheel well and was unable to return it, leading his superior, Lieutenant Cedric Daniels, portrayed by Lance Reddick, to believe that he had decided to pocket the money while it was an honest mistake.

Eventually, Herc and his partner found the money, but that didn't make the situation any easier and still made him look incredibly suspicious in the eyes of his colleagues.

The Wire Reference May Hint At A Future Reacher Plot Twist

A very similar scene happened in Reacher season 2, when during a flashback sequence we see that the aforementioned Tony Swan presumably accidentally lost a brick of confiscated heroin in the car, and while it was found and returned, it also raised doubts that it was just an accident.

While it may be a bit of a stretch, given the obvious similarities between the scenes and the fact that the two shows share the same actor who also happened to appear in such a scene in The Wire, fans believe that it could be a reference to the legendary series.

If that's true, there's reason to believe that Swan is actually innocent, just like Herc, and didn't try to steal the heroin, so maybe all of this is just an attempt by the writers to mislead viewers.

Either way, hopefully fans will learn the truth soon enough, with Reacher season 2 episode 5 premiering on December 29, 2023.
