We could have had the director back on TV, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

Justified: City Primeval is a new series that premiered on July 18. It is a sequel to the six-season FX series Justified, which was adapted from Elmore Leonard's stories about Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

The main role in both parent series and the sequel went to Timothy Olyphant. The actor fit perfectly into Givens’ character, and has been stealing fans’ hearts while seeking justice for those in need since 2010.

After the sequel was released, the franchise got all the attention from previous fans with a huge addition of newcomers for whom City Primeval was a new and independent thing. And as the star of the series, Olyphant, recently revealed in the interview with Josh Horowitz in the Happy Sad Confused podcast episode, Quentin Tarantino himself was interested in being a part of the series.

The actor and director worked together on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And one night they were just hanging out when they started talking about the original series. And that was when Olyphant revealed to Tarantino that there was going to be a sequel.

Tarantino was in a pleasant shock and immediately asked if he could direct some episodes of it and got a positive answer. So he read the scripts and said that he would like to direct episodes 4 and 7.

As the actor recalls, they were all very excited to work together on the miniseries. But something came up. The thing is, it all happened right around the time Tarantino's wife was pregnant with their second child.

Needless to say, the obvious decision for the director was to stay with his wife and support her, and that's exactly what he decided to do. As Olyphant said, Tarantino takes fatherhood seriously.

So even though we were just one step away from having Tarantino back on TV (surprising news), it seems that this time it was not meant to be.

Still, if after the season finale of Justified: City Primeval we’ll get news about other Justified projects up next, who knows – maybe Tarantino will be the first to make a glorious TV comeback. The season finale of City Primeval premieres on FX on August 29.
