Tarantino's known for having a particular interest in feet, but his asking Margot Robbie to "keep it dirty" had a very different explanation from what you may think.

If you were playing Alias and one of your friends said something along the lines of "famous movie director that loves them feet," your entire group would've yelled out Tarantino's name without a second — or even a first! — thought.

This is one of the two things the director's famous for: great movies and foot fetish.

Quentin Tarantino himself is pretty chill about public opinion on the matter and doesn't see the reason to hide his preferences. He states that he doesn't take it seriously and refers to his predecessors who were caught on the same.

"Before me, the person foot fetishism was defined by was Luis Buñuel, another film director. And Hitchcock was accused of it, and Sofia Coppola has been accused of it," the director says, waving off the questions about feet in his movies.

So, when Margot Robbie shared that Quentin Tarantino told her to not clean her feet during the filming of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and "keep it dirty," no one was really surprised.

That's rather funny as for once, the reason for that demand had nothing (or almost nothing) with the director's personal tastes.

"My feet were dirty because I'd been walking around set. They stayed dirty in the movie because Quentin said, 'Don't. Don't clean them.' Someone ran in to do it, and he was like, 'No, it's real. Keep it,'" recalls Robbie who played Sharon Tate in the movie.

The decision to do so was spontaneous, shared the actress. As she kicked off the boots in the first take of the cinema scene and her feet turned out to be really dirty, Tarantino saw the opportunity to "keep it real" as the real Sharon Tate hated wearing shoes so it seemed only right that her feet wouldn't be clean and perfect.

Still, this very reasonable explanation didn't save either Quentin Tarantino or Margot Robbie from jokes — at that point, nothing could, really.

As Brad Pitt was making a speech after receiving an award for his role in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, he specifically named Margot's feet among his most important co-stars in the movie.
