One of the most acclaimed movie directors of all time, Quentin Tarantino always tries to avoid shooting sex scenes in his films, but why does he hate them so much?

In the modern world, movies and TV shows are the most popular form of media, and there are tens of thousands of directors, both experienced and aspiring, who are trying to leave their mark. Few of them will ever achieve the level of recognition that Hollywood titans like Quentin Tarantino — the man who learned the craft by himself.

While Tarantino’s movies are undoubtedly different and unique in their own ways, the director has a distinct style that you’ll always recognize. If you watched Pulp Fiction all the way back in 1994 and then, two decades later, you come across Django Unchained, you don’t second-guess who made it — you just go, “Yeap, that’s him.”

Quentin Tarantino’s unique style is largely based on his unmatched dialogues and character interactions filled with pop-culture references. While he’s phenomenal in many aspects, there are some parts of movie-making the director hates — and one of the most surprising is his hate for shooting intimate scenes.

Tarantino tries to avoid sex scenes in his movies as much as possible: he doesn’t think they really add much value to them. But there are other reasons for his attitude.

“The truth is that, in real life, it’s a pain to shoot sex scenes. Everyone is very tense. <...> If it was already a bit problematic to do it before, now it is even more so. If there had ever been a sex scene that was essential to the story, I would have, but so far, it hasn’t been necessary,” the director told Diari ARA.

So, Tarantino has not one, but three issues with intimate scenes in his movies. First, they don’t add value to the story; second, they make everyone involved extremely uncomfortable; and third, they might prove harmful to his and the movie’s reputation in the current social climate where sometimes, the most random things get called controversial.

But it’s not like Quentin Tarantino’s movies miss something vital by avoiding sex scenes, right? Most people don’t even realize that the director doesn’t do those.
