Queen of Tears Soars Over 40M Hours Viewed Thanks to a Single Cameo
Its TV ratings have also hit a huge new milestone.
Summary:
- Queen of Tears is a romance K-drama that is reigning on both home network tvN and on Netflix
- The latest episode has seen an unexpected cameo that had everyone on the verge of their seats
- With six more episodes set to come out, it's safe to say Queen of Tears' reign is far from over
You may not care about K-dramas, but you can't deny the impact the South Korean entertainment industry had on the entire world over the past several years. With the variety of genres and stories, K-dramas enjoy their well-deserved success on western streaming services; and one of the most recent examples of such triumph is Queen of Tears.
The series revolves around a true power couple, in the sense both lovers are huge bosses: she runs a big network of department stores, while he is a head of legal for a chain of supermarkets. They may have it easy in business, but when it comes to love, things get complicated.
The story of Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in and their struggle to save their love has conquered hearts and charts. Most recently, after premiering its latest eighth episode on March 30, Queen of Tears has celebrated a new milestone.
On Netflix, the romantic K-drama has amassed more than 41 million hours viewed, while its domestic ratings look even better. According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 recorded an average rating of 16.1% among households across the country, propelling the highest viewer rating to 18.2%.
And there may be a simple reason for such a milestone.
Song Joong-ki's Cameo in Queen of Tears Episode 8
Love stories and family drama are fun, but you know what's even more fun? An unexpected crossover nobody knew they needed!
In episode 8 of Queen of Tears, an iconic character from another widely popular K-drama, Vincenzo, suddenly appeared to handle the divorce case of Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in.
And yes, the iconic character was the lawyer Vincenzo Cassano himself, portrayed by Song Joong-ki.
It was Queen of Tears' co-director, Kim Hee Won, who helped make this happen: back at the time, he worked on Vincenzo as well.
