And they became especially popular in US, where there even are theme parks, dedicated to the Wizarding World. No wonder that Rowling's book series became yet another British book franchise put to the screen by Hollywood.

However, most of the movies' cast was, appropriately, British. It's hard to imagine anyone but Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in the leading roles.

But some fans have pretty active imaginations. As Ladbible has reported, through a series of votes fans have picked nearly a full cast for Harry Potter movies, entirely out of American actors.

As is usual with speculative fan castings, concerns like availability or salaries were disregarded (though that might be more justified that is usual, a franchise as big as Harry Potter could actually afford to hire A-list actors left and right).

Some names, particularly those of child actors picked to play child characters, are, understandably, more or less obscure. Relatively few people probably have heard of Owen Vaccaro, "cast" as Harry Potter, or Benjamin Haigh, the pick for Ron Weasley (even though they are older than Radcliffe or Grint were when they've first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone).

Marsai Martin, selected to play Hermione, may be better known, but still is hardly a significant star.

Others are famous actors. For example, Adam Driver was selected for the role of Severus Snape, Meryl Streep for Minerva Mcgonagall and Jack Nicholson as Mad-Eye Moody.

And some choices might appear surprising on the first glance, for example John Malkovich, who's primarily known as a comedic actor, was selected to play Lord Voldemort.

However, not only Malkovich played some dramatic roles in the past, he actually has experience in playing fantasy villains, even if in a movie he's probably not proud to remember (he was Galbatorix in Eragon).

Other notable picks include Jorge Garcia as Rubeus Hagrid, Gaten Matarazzo as Neville Longbottom, Sadie Sink as Ginny Weasley, and more.

So, as you can see, Warner Bros. Pictures probably could have cast Harry Potter movies using solely American actors, if some studio boss somehow became obsessed with the idea.
