Without a doubt, HBO's "Game of Thrones" is one of the best-written shows television has ever seen, finally proving that fantasy can compete with serious dramas like "The Wire" and "The Sopranos" in terms of character development and story depth.

That said, the show still has a lot of problems when it comes to writing, and the biggest of them is the sheer number of storylines that were left unanswered by the time the credits rolled.

Here are 10 lingering mysteries in "Game of Thrones ":

Obviously, the biggest reason for the show's inability to answer the questions raised during its 8-season run is George R.R. Martin himself. The author is notoriously slow to write, and the show's screenwriters were left to their own devices after the events of "A Dance with Dragons," and apparently failed to come up with the endings to some of the mysteries.

Still, maybe the writers should have just cut the plots they weren't sure about instead of ruining the fun for the audience.

And while most of the examples in this list can be explained by Martin's slow writing process, some of them, like why the fire wasn't used against the army of the dead, look like a problem created entirely by the show's writers.
