Perfect Supernatural Season 16 Pitch: Dean Winchester Searching For Castiel
Isn’t that what we all would want to see?
Summary:
- Supernatural was a The CW series that has been airing for 15 years since 2005 to 2020.
- The finale of the series, as well as the episodes building up to it, ended up being very controversial among the fandom.
- That has to do with the love confession from Castiel to Dean Winchester, and the sudden death of the former.
Nothing feels as bad as an unsatisfying finale to a great series. No matter how well it begun back in a day, and no matter how distasteful the events turned out to be, the fandom tends to throw those finales away and pretend they never happened.
What had happened in the eighteenth episode of season 15 is certainly not the finale that Supernatural fans wanted all along. While the changes from the pure quality horror sci-fi show to whatever happened to the Winchester brothers over the years were subtle, they were still there, and they left an impact.
No one expected the culmination of queerbait to arise, take the shot at it, and back away like all the years before, like nothing happened. People couldn't believe that the writers and producers of the show would do something so blatantly cruel not only to Dean and Cas, but also to them, the viewers, forcing them to quit everything Supernatural on the spot.
Knowing how traumatic the experience of the season 15 finale was for the majority of the fandom, it's rather amusing that this reaction of instant rejection didn't happen to everyone. While some have indeed sworn off the show, others are burning with anticipation to dive deep into any renewal, revival, or reboot that may come.
And they seem to have the best plot ideas already!
What Can Save Supernatural Season 16?
One thing that would certainly redeem the team behind the show in the eyes of past and present stans would be to admit their initial mistake and promptly correct it.
As beautiful as many found Castiel's declaration of love and self-sacrifice to be, there aren't many people who are happy with the outcome. An extremely touching and romantic speech was met by nothing but a stare into the void. Changing Dean's expression, which clearly lacked proper emotion, would be a nice place to start.
But having him be the main character in season 16, driving around desperately trying to find and save Castiel, would only make things even better. That would be the positive change that would bring closure to the story, no matter how happy or heartbreaking the outcome would be in a romantic sense.
Plus, it would make a lot of sense from a show structure and motivation standpoint. It would give Dean a motivation to push through more pain and horror for a chance to save someone he cares about. These characters went trough to much together to not touch upon that.
Whether you like the idea or have a completely different idea for Supernatural's possible comeback, you would not want to miss any of the news and updates about it. Until that happens, you can always go ahead and rewatch all the previous seasons of Supernatural on Netflix or Max.
