Paul Rudd’s Underrated War Movie Hits Netflix In February
This one deserved much more attention than it got.
Summary:
- The Catcher Was A Spy is a WW2 biopic that was released in 2018.
- Paul Rudd did an amazing job portraying a dramatic role as a lead character.
- The cast of the movie and their performance deserve much better recognition.
There are so many war movies created over the past decades, that sometimes it’s easy to miss some of them, even if the cast is full of A-listers and the plot is unique and unexplored.
The Catcher Was A Spy was created by Ben Lewin and tells the true story of a very complicated real life character Moe Berg, played by Paul Rudd. The viewers were surprised to hear the actor is going to play a dramatic role, because we frankly got used to him playing a little bit more lighthearted parts.
However, it seems that Rudd was born to play Berg, the former professional baseball player who became a spy during World War II. The man's story is incredible, and he was definitely worthy of his own biopic.
As the story unfolds, we see how hard it was for a well-educated Jewish sportsman, the catcher for the Boston Red Sox, to become a spy. His main mission was to go behind enemy lines and get rid of the Nazis' chief nuclear scientist before he could develop an atomic bomb.
The estimated budget of the espionage thriller about a multilingual spy is $14 million, and it grossed $953,953 worldwide.
The cast of the movie also includes several more great actors like Sienna Miller, Tom Wilkinson, and the incredible Paul Giamatti, who portrayed the Dutch-American physicist Samuel Goudsmit.
They all did amazingly in the movie, and it’s a pity that so many viewers still haven’t checked the movie out to find out about that.
“Paul Giamatti is amazing. Always gives a great performance. Remembering to watch this just for that. Also, this is definitely a different kind of role to see Paul Rudd in,” Redditor SkeweredFromEarToEye Said.
The movie will be available to stream on Netflix on February 15, so you might as well mark your calendars already.
