Patrick Stewart Teases Another Star Trek Movie, But Don’t Get Too Excited Yet
It’s not a sealed deal yet.
As with other major universes, Star Trek fans are always eager for more content. However, just like with other major studios, it takes years for Paramount to come up with sequels and extensions of already existing teams and storylines within the universe.
Star Trek: Picard has been one of the most enjoyable in recent memory, all thanks to the character of Jean-Luc Picard, who was a fan favorite for many years before the series was released. It's not surprising that the audience was distraught when the show ended. What is surprising, however, is the news that there is still some hope for Picard's return.
The promising idea of a new movie focusing on this very universe, as well as his particular character, was shared by the actor who portrayed the iconic character throughout the Star Trek: The Next Generation, movies and the latest Picard series, Sir Patrick Stewart, in his memoir, Making It So:
“I am gently pushing Paramount to let us do one single Picard movie. Not a Next Generation movie, as we have already done four of those. This would be an expansion and deepening of the universe as we’ve seen it in Star Trek: Picard. I’ve discussed this with Jonathan [Frakes], Brent [Spiner], and LeVar [Burton], and they are all game. Jonathan is my first choice to direct it,” Stewart said.
Unfortunately, there's not much more to say about the movie at the moment, so it's still too early to get really excited. While fans would always be happy to get a deeper look into the Star Trek: Picard universe, the reality is that without the open support of Paramount executives, this news is not very promising.
However, this is a great development for the story to look forward to. If you are interested in seeing a Jean-Luc Picard solo movie that Patrick Stewart has been talking about, keep an eye out for more news and updates.
Until then, you can watch the 3 seasons of the Star Trek: Picard TV series on Paramount Plus.
