Fans’ manifestations just added up on top.

Every once in a while, a new soap couple comes along that has a chance to repeat the success of its most popular predecessors and get the attention the genre needs to stay afloat. This year, the new hot item in the soap world was brought to you by The Young and the Restless.

Abby Newman and Devon Hamilton have already had their fair share of sweet, heartfelt, and deep moments as friends and are going stronger than many fans expected as a couple. While many saw these two characters ending up together for quite some time, others didn't feel much chemistry in their interactions.

There's only one thing you don't want to the soap to be, and that's boring. But so far, the actors behind these characters, Melissa Ordway and Bryton James, are doing everything in their power to avoid that. Just like they did their best to bring their characters closer together.

Do you think Abby and Devon work better as a couple or just as friends and co-parents?

That's right, the actors were definitely responsible for the spark that eventually made its way into the scripts and onto the screen. In a joint interview with Soap Opera Digest, Ordway and James spoke candidly about their own attempts to bring the couple together:

“Every time we would be on set together, we would look into the camera and remind the producers or directors or whoever’s watching how much we wanted them to be a thing. <...> We were not subtle. And every head writer during their 10-year friendship on the show, we would definitely let them know,” the actor shared.

While not everyone was receptive to the actors' idea at first, the relationship between Abby and Devon has progressed nonetheless. There is no way that the couple will remain unaffected by all the drama surrounding them forever, but what fans can expect is a series of honest conversations and more self-exploration.

If you don't want to miss what the future holds for Abby and Devon in Genoa City, you can tune in to the upcoming episodes of The Young and The Restless Monday through Friday on CBS.
