Only True Addams Family Fans Spotted This Iconic Cameo in Wednesday Trailer
Plot twist: did you spot... another Wednesday?
A new trailer for Netflix 's upcoming show Wednesday seems to be quite meta, because if you think about it, it has more than just one Wednesday Addams.
Surely, the first one is Jenna Ortega 's main character. However, the most dedicated Addams family fans know that Christina Ricci, who portrays Marilyn Thornhill, actually reprised the role of the Addams oldest kid in the past. Christina Ricci being included in Netflix's Wednesday made fans excited: it felt like the "old Wednesday" passing the torch to the "new Wednesday," played by Jenna Ortega.
Fans were extremely happy to see Ricci returning to the Addams Family universe, saying that she is an "epic" addition to the show.
"Seeing Christina Ricci make an appearance feels like a total passing of the torch, I love it so much," user Bunny Bard wrote in YouTube comments for the trailer.
Ricci portrayed Wednesday in Barry Sonnenfeld's The Addams Family film in 1991 and returned to her role in the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. In 2022, she returns to portray Marilyn Thornhill — an original character created specifically for the series.
One Netflix's Wednesday Scene is Already Insanely Problematic
Not much is known about Thornhill, though. She appears in the final moments of the trailer to ask Ortega's Wednesday whether she feels welcome in Nevermore Academy — a private school Wednesday ended up in after being expelled from a regular one. Thornhill might be some sort of a teacher-mother for the students, but her smile does seem kind of sinister. Besides. Thornhill is seen snapping her fingers at some point in a move that might as well be an innocent touch or an homage to her previous role as Wednesday.
Who knows, maybe we will end up having an actual passing of a torch in the show? After all, Ricci's character is extremely enigmatic and surely has secrets to hide.
Wednesday is set to premiere on Netflix on November 23.
