Anime based on a popular Japanese manga. In a world where humans and robots live side by side, a series of murders occur. It soon becomes clear to high-functioning humanoid robot, Inspector Gesicht, that he too is in danger.

This is a great anime murder mystery that touches on human emotion and the current fears around AI and robots taking over.

2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)

Set in a dystopian future, this anime highlights how circumstances and the way people are treated can shape lives. David Martinez is a top-performing student at Arkansas Academy. He's also a poor Latino kid who is bullied constantly.

Already feeling like he doesn't belong, when tragedy strikes, he gives up on academia and turns to criminality.

When a woman who disappeared from Vik 20 years ago returns, covered in ashes and looking exactly as she did when she disappeared, the locals become concerned. Rumours of changelings begin to spread. More and more missing people turn up in the same condition.

4. Travelers (2016)

A time-traveling sci-fi drama set in a post-apocalyptic future. With society on the brink of collapse, the consciousness of travelers is sent back in time where it is transferred to a host body. Those hosts are members of present-day society who are nearing the end of life.

Consciousnesses are transferred using GPS tracking and operatives learn about the life of the body they will occupy by checking social media. Once safely transferred, the travelers use the host body to carry out tasks assigned by an AI computer known as The Director.

5. The Hollow (2018)

This Canadian animated series follows three teenagers who wake up in a strange world with no memory of themselves or each other. They learn their names, Adam, Mira and Kai, from notes in their pockets. After emerging from their bunker, they find themselves in the magical world of the Hollow and must find their way home.

Season 2 follows a similar premise, but the trio wakes up in a place that looks like their real homes.
