One Vampire Diaries Couple So Cringeworthy, Fans Still Can't Get Believe It Happened

In the 8 years that The Vampire Diaries has been on the air, fans have seen many ups and downs with their favorite characters.

While some went through tough breakups, others found each other and formed new couples. Unfortunately, not all of them were received positively by the audience.

Viewers regret some romances so much that they would rather not see them happen at all.

One such couple is Caroline and Alaric. Despite the excellent performance of Candice Accola and Matthew Davis in their respective roles, nothing could save the showrunners from the wrath of the fans.

Part of this was due to the audience's great love for the other pairing of Caroline and Stefan, but more than anything else, viewers were angered by the complete lack of ethics and logic in this relationship.

The story of Caroline and Alaric goes beyond him being her professor, as Alaric is the one who killed her father while dealing with his dark side and tortured Caroline herself.

The relationship between them, one-sided or not, did not feel natural at all. If anything, it made the audience uncomfortable and ashamed of everything that was happening on screen.

Fortunately for all #Steroline shippers, these two were not the endgame, but just a bump in the road for Caroline, who ended up marrying Stefan.

However, the story was so bizarre that some people still wonder why it happened in the first place.
