There was no time watching Grey's Anatomy while filming Grey's Anatomy.

When you spend as many years at a job as Ellen Pompeo did on Grey's Anatomy, you probably don't want to spend any more time on it than is absolutely necessary.

While it may be interesting to watch yourself act on screen, for the actor, the process becomes part of the routine, so there is no need to tune in every episode to evaluate your own performance.

For many years, the actress stayed away from Grey's Anatomy, partly because she was so involved in the filming process as an actress and producer that she didn't have much time to watch, and partly because there was no reason to.

Recently, however, everything changed.

The actress' daughter, Stella Luna, asked for permission to watch Grey's Anatomy, since everyone in her class was watching and she was the only one left.

With such a famous but strict mom, it must have been hard not to know what exactly her role was and why it was blowing up so much. Fortunately, Pompeo agreed to give it a try.

Maybe Grey's Anatomy is not the show you choose for mother-daughter movie nights, but Stella Luna enjoyed the show even more than her mom, according to Ellen Pompeo herself.

She talked about the experience with her co-star Katherine Heigl for Variety:

"At first I was like, "Oh, this is so amazing, and we're going to watch it together." Then it was episode after episode after episode, and I was like, "I don't have the stamina for this!" I filmed all these episodes; I can't now go back and watch it again."

Now that Ellen Pompeo is officially stepping down from her role as Meredith Grey, maybe she can get the rest she needs to finally regain the excitement and passion for the show.

After playing a character for 18 years, growing up with her, and going through all the trials and tribulations, it's almost mandatory to clear your palette before going back to the story.

But don't worry, the actress is still working. In fact, you can see her in the upcoming Hulu show The Orphan this September. So stay tuned for more news and behind-the-scenes updates!
