No one could expect that.

When you spend so much time getting into character, only to be subjected to the most horrific things on set, it can take a toll on your mental health.

On a show like Game of Thrones, where no one, including very young children, was safe from violence, the actors had to take extra measures to take care of themselves and each other.

Fortunately, the good banter among the cast and crew kept many of them from being too affected by what was happening on screen.

Emilia Clarke, for example, often recalled how much Jason Momoa's support helped her overcome a lot of negative emotions while filming the sensitive sexual violence scenes together.

As we all know, there was no love lost between Daenerys and Khal Drogo in the beginning, which is why their first night together was not consensual, as were several other nights together.

These scenes not only required nudity, which was already hard enough for the actress' mental state, but also required her to be in a very dark mental space to capture all the emotions of her character.

While it was extremely important to get the shot right, it was also necessary to keep the mood on set.

As Clarke told The Graham Norton Show, Jason Momoa found just the right way to lighten the mood of the cast and crew.

"He decided for one of the scenes, which was on his back and my face, he decided to not use the modesty sock, but use a beautiful fluffy pink sock. So getting that closeup for me looking petrified and like I didn't want this to happen was just… lots of laughter."

While we can share the confusion of the other guests who were not expecting such a lighthearted story based on such a violent subject, we can all admire Jason Momoa's dedication to brightening the days of his colleagues.

Even if it meant filming a few extra takes.
