One Thing TBBT's Mayim Bialik Would Change About Amy And Sheldon If She Could
Let's face it, we were all just as surprised when it happened.
One of the most controversial moments in The Big Bang's long run was when other female characters besides Penny were introduced to the show.
Although, in hindsight, most of the hate was motivated by nothing more than pure misogyny, there were some questionable parts of their characters and relationships with others.
Not only the fans but also the two actors of Amy and Sheldon were surprised to find out that the couple got intimate in episode 11 of season 9.
Although it shouldn't be that surprising since they are both responsible adults who can be held accountable for their own actions, for some reason it felt very out of character.
While reflecting on the scene on Entertainment Weekly's Chasing Emmy podcast episode, actress Amy Mayim Bialik had this to say:
"Everything is out of character until you do it and then it's part of your character. Honestly, I enjoyed being the longest running romantic and intimate, non-sexual relationship on television. I thought our characters accomplished and achieved all of the things important to them in their relationship."
Bialik also said she wasn't sure if she and Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, would do it the same way if they had a say in the story.
Although the actress doesn't go into any details of what exactly she'd change, it's clear the show could've taken it.
After all, Amy and Sheldon's relationship becoming sexual was going to be a big deal no matter how it was portrayed, so they might have tweaked a few things to the actors' liking.
Fortunately, the moment didn't take anything away from the beloved relationship. If anything, it managed to add another layer of complexity and made their characters open up to the audience from a completely different side.
If you want to re-watch the episode that changed Amy and Sheldon's relationship forever, you can stream The Big Bang Theory on Netflix or MAX.
