It requires a lot of neck strength to be an actress.

Being an actor is not as easy as it seems.

Of course, if you are successful, such a profession comes with a lot of privileges, including money, connections, and endless praise from all over the world.

But making a name for yourself takes much more than talent. It is a matter of determination, hard work, perseverance, and strength – not only mental but also physical.

Even the filming of such magical stories as Harry Potter can easily become an ordeal and a challenge when dealing with unusual locations or props that are difficult to use.

Actors' hectic schedules and the mental effort it takes to fully embody the role they're playing are stressful enough, but keeping the look intact can be even harder.

Maggie Smith has always been very honest and open about her experiences in the industry, which have not always been sunshine and rainbows.

The actress has had her share of struggles, but she has always been willing to talk about them and give fans a glimpse into the sets of her favorite shows and movies.

Fortunately, some of the struggles were a little easier to get over than others.

In fact, you wouldn't know it at first, but the actress confirmed that she faced very similar costume struggles while filming Harry Potter and Downton Abbey:

"I used to find the most exhausting thing was wearing those hats. They're the heaviest things in the world. I had a hat, it was like the Albert Hall, it was huge and so heavy," Smith shared once.

Although the actress wasn't completely satisfied with the role of Professor Minerva McGonagall, she gained universal acclaim and the gratitude of many viewers who fell in love with the story.

And hats, no matter how uncomfortable they may have been, were the perfect complement to the professor's look.

If you feel inspired to host a Harry Potter marathon, you can re-watch all the movies by streaming them on MAX, Peacock or FuboTV.
