  • Some fans feel that Elena and Damon shouldn't have ended up together because he had much better chemistry with Rose.

If you think re-watching The CW's The Vampire Diaries now, well into your adulthood, is a good idea, think again. While the show may hold a lot of fond memories and nostalgic feelings for you, chances are the fresh look at the characters and their relationship would completely ruin the magic.

As social media is flooded with posts like this, where old fans of the show discover how annoying and toxic all the characters were half the time, some of them are actually pointing out the underrated heroes. The characters that had a lot of potential but were cut way too soon.

Many believe that Rose-Marie, more often referred to as Rose in the show, was one of them. Widely hated at the time the show aired, Rose now seems to be the only woman who could eventually lead Damon to find peace in his humanity.

Were Damon and Rose In Love?

Rose was introduced in the second season of the show as Trevor's best friend, whom she considered his only family. Though violent at times like all the other vampires, Rose stood out from the rest by being kinder and more caring towards humans. She even insisted that she took no pleasure in taking human life.

Though she couldn't have been more different from Damon, they were walking, talking proof that opposites attract. Though the romance was brief, and some might say non-existent, pointing to the fact that both considered themselves nothing more than "special" friends, the chemistry between the two was palpable.

There is no doubt that Damon cared for Rose in a way that he cared for very few people in his life. The final scene between the two, in the dream he created for her to enjoy the warmth of the sun before her death, was one of the sweetest and most heartbreaking moments of the series.

Killing Rose as an act of mercy to end her suffering, which wasn't really in Damon's character either, and crying over her body just further proved the influence she had on him.

Would there be a chance for them if she didn't die so quickly? Unfortunately, we will never know for sure. However, many fans now believe that whatever they had with Rose could eventually make Damon drop his obsession with Elena and set him up for a healthier and happier relationship.

If you need to refresh your memories of Rose, you can stream the second season of The Vampire Diaries on Max.
