One The Big Bang Theory Character Who Fell Victim To Lazy Writing
There isn’t any other explanation for that change.
Summary:
- The Big Bang Theory was a CBS sitcom that aired from 2007 to 2019.
- One of the show's main characters was Howard Wolowitz, portrayed by Simon Helberg.
- Howard's long-lost half-brother storyline is considered one of the show's worst.
There aren't many bad things that can be said about a sitcom like The Big Bang Theory, because it seems to have it all. From well-developed characters to brilliant jokes to sweet love stories, there's not much more you can ask for in a 20-minute episode of a comedic TV show.
However, one thing that throws viewers off every time they reach a certain episode is the inconsistency in the writing. This is pretty obvious with all the characters in one way or another, but one who has fallen victim to it the most is Howard Wolowitz.
The problem fans have with him is that his concern for his family doesn't pay off when he meets his brother Josh. That's the turn the events of his life take in the episode "The Fortification Implementation" (S8E20), but their relationship is not brought back in any way, shape or form later on.
Why Didn’t Howard Stay In Touch With His Brother
For a character who was set up to be very caring in all family matters, Howard doesn't show the same level of familiarity as Josh. Despite leaving things with him on a rather positive note, Howard never returns to the topic of Josh and doesn't even mention him once, which is a bit odd.
Of course, one could argue that there is no fault in Howard's actions, as another woman fathered Josh, and knowing how much his mother means to him, that fact might leave a bad taste in his mouth. However, if the episode wanted to establish that as the outcome of the episode, viewers would take it.
Whether Howard ends up liking or hating his brother would give the story a pretty clear finale. It would give the viewers a sense of closure, and they wouldn't expect the brother to come back at any point, or on the contrary, they wouldn't have to remind the writers to include his name every now and then.
Unfortunately, The Big Bang Theory did neither. The storyline with Josh gave fans a glimpse of Howard's true feelings for his family, but it was taken away as soon as the episode ended.
Considering that season 8 of the show was nowhere near the end, and there were plenty of opportunities to return to the subject, it is clear that not doing so was an easy decision. The wrong decision, to be exact.
