Sometimes it’s better to keep a mystery.

Summary:

  • 911 was an original Fox procedural drama that has been moved to ABC starting the upcoming 7th season.
  • One of the characters, Howard Han, goes by the nickname Chimney, which hasn’t been explained to the viewers.
  • Fans believe that at this point no story will live up to the expectations, so the writers shouldn’t bother trying.

Any television show can be improved by adding a dash of mystery. While some genres, such as soap operas and romantic dramas, wouldn't survive without the secrets the characters keep from each other, others could, but would lose much of their entertaining quality.

Whether the secret is big or small, ruinous or silly, it always makes the viewer pay more attention to what is happening on the screen. People are curious, so any chance to crack the mystery themselves by tracking down clues and easter eggs makes them much more excited and adds a layer of competition.

The only danger creators face in a case like this is to overhype the story. Once it's done, it can be very hard to live up to expectations. 911 has already made this mistake with Howard Han and the nickname they gave him, Chimney.

Now they have two options, either satisfy the audience's desire for truth or leave it to their imagination. The fans know which they would prefer.

Why Is 911 Chimney Called That?

As teased earlier in the series, Chimney's nickname was so inappropriate during the story that it couldn't even be reported on the news. While these circumstances may vary, the very phrase already channels the audience's imagination to come up with the worst possible situation.

No matter how good, bad, or downright heroic the story behind Chimney is, it would probably not satisfy everyone. Like the ending of a very good but long show, the stakes are so high that it's better to take the easy way out than to be greeted with general disappointment from the fans.

After all, the 911 creators have already messed with the audience enough by sprinkling Buddie crumbs all over the show and still not making it canon. Adding more stress on top of that can easily have fatal consequences for the interest in the show.

All jokes aside, 911 will be back on ABC on March 14, 2024. So mark your calendars and keep an eye out for exciting news and behind-the-scenes updates!
