As The Walking Dead finale approaches, fans are remembering the show's most underwhelming death and calling it the dumbest decision AMC Studios could have made.

Carl Grimes went from a shy and reserved boy in season one to one of the most badass characters on The Walking Dead.

The character, played by Chandler Riggs, went through a lot and survived a lot during his eight seasons on the show.

He survived when the camp in Atlanta got overrun. He survived at The Center for Disease Control. He survived at the prison. He survived the flu. He survived at Terminus. He survived the church. He survived the attacks on Alexandria. He even survived being shot two times (once in the eye). But he couldn't survive the two walkers.

The boy who learned to fight walkers from an early age died because a walker bit him. Fans feel that the writers literally gave Carl the weakest death possible. The way he died felt like an insult to the character to many fans.

"His death was extremely underwhelming, disappointing and, without any exaggeration, simply terribly written... I couldn't believe how badly it was written," one fan wrote to the agreement of others.

The thing that most annoys The Walking Dead fans about Carl's death is that it was out of character for him. He was bitten by a walker while saving a stranger (Siddiq). The character went from wanting to kill Negan no matter what to not wanting to hurt anyone in the space of 2 episodes. Instead of this pointless death, Carl could have gone out a warrior in the battle with the Saviors that was happening at the same time. His dying heroic death would have been much easier to swallow, fans think.

However, the majority of fans feel that Carl shouldn't have died at all. His death has become a major blow to the show's intimacy. The show, known for not following its comic book canon, made a huge mistake by killing off the character who, along with Rick, basically owned the comic book series. After his death and Rick's departure, the show no longer felt like The Walking Dead to many fans, but rather just another zombie TV show.

"Carl plays a really important role in the comics later on and this kinda made me stop watching the show," one of the fans admitted.
