One More Reason SATC Fans Passionately Hate And Just Like That
And Just Like That… is the kind of show that people watch to hate at this point.
Sex and the City is a glorious work of art, and nothing can top it. Definitely not its revival show, which seems to get worse with every episode.
From Miranda's completely changed personality and Mister Big's untimely death to the multitude of new characters and storylines that don't make sense, And Just Like That… has not been living up to its potential.
Season 1 was new territory for both the girls and the viewers who had to get reacquainted with them, so the slow pacing and lack of energy could be excused. Carrie had just lost her husband, which meant that she couldn't be the same woman she used to be.
By season 2, however, she was supposedly healed and ready to mingle, move on, and live her life. At least, that's what the writers keep telling us (instead of showing us). Season 2 Carrie doesn't seem like her old self at all.
In Sex and the City, she was always the soul of the party, the glue that held the group together, and the source of energy. Carrie was the narrator, and she had an opinion on everything (sometimes even when no one asked her).
And Just Like That… has failed to capture that. In season 2, Carrie has already started to get out there again, but she is different – it feels like she has no energy and no opinions, just jokes and judgments (at least, that hasn't changed). She also barely narrates anything, and the series could do with a bit more word puns and life advice, just like in the old days.
Carrie was never the ultimate fan favorite, but she was an interesting character. Taking that away from her in the revival just leads to more hate from the audience, and it is even kind of justified.
Season 2 still has four more episodes to redeem itself (and Carrie's attitude), so here is hoping for the best.
