That one instance when friends should’ve stayed friends.

As much as we all love Grey’s Anatomy and the drama that it always has in store for its fans, we can also admit that it gets a little bit too much for us.

Although the crazier is usually the better, some of the sex scenes in the show have made us cringe ever since they first aired. George and Meredith’s little one-night stand is one of such scenes.

It’s safe to say that both characters were somewhat vulnerable in the situation leading up to intimacy.

While Meredith was under the pressure of loads of stress in her personal life, George still felt the aftermath of a crush he once had on his friend. However, it’s not the act itself that causes the discussions and controversy, but what happened after.

Say what you want about how times have changed, the general common sense of comforting someone in distress was always there in place, but it feels like George didn’t have that in mind at all when he saw Meredith crying after they just finished what they did.

No matter the year, his reaction to someone so close to him, both mentally and physically, wasn’t up to anyone's expectations. And that, doubled by him telling their intimate status to pretty much everybody else, is what upsets Grey’s Anatomy fans the most.

Who was in the wrong?

What makes the story even creepier if the fans do want to get deeper into the lore, it’s the fact that George later admits that he knew Meredith never wanted him that way. As that is the common knowledge in 2023, consent given under the influence of any substance messing with one’s mentality is dubious at best, back when the episode aired it wasn’t all that controversial.

In fact, many viewers who went to re-watch all 19 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy from the very beginning admit having a whole different perspective on George’s character. It’s almost like they tried to write him as your typical insecure straight dude so much that they ended up with an incel-y type that no one truly likes.

If you need to freshen up your memories of the infamous one-night stand between Meredith and George, and everything that led to it, you can go ahead and re-watch Grey’s Anatomy’s early seasons on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus.
