Grey's Anatomy has been around for 18 years, and it's still largely loved by the fans. Throughout all these years and hundreds of episodes, we've been watching Meredith Grey turn into a seasoned professional.

We saw her struggle at work, with relationships and friendships, growing from the shadow of her famous and abusive mother.

We wish we could say that we've been there with Meredith through her ups and downs… But it's mostly been downs, unfortunately.

For 19 seasons, the writers just keep putting her through the wringer to a point where it's sort of a running gag in the Grey Anatomy fan community.

There have been many memes about how the writers hate Ellen Pompeo's characters (no wonder, since the show's been with us for so long), but we've found the one that perfectly describes Grey's Anatomy:

It's been eighteen long years that we've been saying this very line in various interpretations: "I can't believe they did this to Meredith!"

Meredith Grey is most certainly a strong character, and she knows to do what she thinks is right under any circumstances, but…

However strong she is, you just can't help but sympathize with her. This is too much hardship for anyone, and this makes up a dilemma.

Most of the fans would love it if the writers finally gave Meredith a break and let her be happy and at peace with herself for once.

But then, there wouldn't be Grey's Anatomy, would it? Meredith's struggles are such a cornerstone of the show that it's impossible to picture it without them. And it's a shame since it feels like it's high time food Meredith to catch a break…

But it's more likely that the scenario from the meme above will come to life if we're being honest.
