The events of House of the Dragon take place about two centuries before Game of Thrones, but one character from the original series could easily appear in the prequel.

Game of Thrones cameos in House of the Dragon are not exactly plausible due to chronology and reason... but when it comes to Melisandre, everything changes.

The Red Witch, who brought Jon Snow back from the dead and took part in the final battle against the Night King, is about 400 years old in Game of Thrones. This means that she was already there when the Dance of the Dragons took place. Because of this, many fans are wondering if she will make an appearance in the second season.

However, it seems that Melisandre's age is the only thing that ties her to the story, and fans have no reason to believe that her cameo in House of the Dragon will make sense story-wise. For this reason, if you mention the possibility of a Melisandre cameo in season 2 on the House of the Dragon subreddit, you are likely to get a lot of eye-rolling.

"This is the kind of fan service D&D would do. Thankfully, HotD is under the careful guidance of more competent showrunners," Redditor headcoat2013 said.

Those who dare to suggest that Melisandre's cameo would just be "fun," even though she has nothing to do with the story, may be mocked.

"At some point somebody will also ask for a cameo by Legolas or Yoda or Wolverine or Voldemort or whoever. 'It would be fun,' they'll say," Redditor 4electricnomad noted sarcastically.

Besides, it's very likely that Melisandre wasn't even in the Seven Kingdoms when the Dance of the Dragons took place. So, story-wise, her cameo doesn't really make sense, unless the House of the Dragon showrunners decide to bring her back no matter what.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is set to begin filming in March, with a premiere date yet to be announced by HBO.
